5 Things Malayalee Girls In Bangalore Are Sick Of Hearing

Updated: Sep 27, 2019

Maria Thomas

1. The Judging Disbelief

This is how most of the Malayalee aunties and relatives react, the moment they hear that a Mallu girl is staying in Bangalore. For many unknown reasons, Bangalore, apparently, is a place where Mallu girls get 'spoiled'. “What? You are staying in Bangalore?” - people who ask such baseless questions don’t even know why the city is so unsafe and mysterious for girls and a cool place for guys.

2. The Concerned Marriage Brokers

Annoying, right? Exactly my point.

These kind of conversations are very common among the Malayali crowd. So let me use this opportunity to say that, if a man doesn’t prefer a woman living in Bangalore, then let him go ahead and find some woman from Delhi, Kattapana, Kottayam or wherever else and get married. If I'm confident with myself, the place I live in doesn't matter.

3. The Ignorant Assumptions

OMG! This is one line that makes me feel sick! Wake up, people! We are here to live our lives. We are students or working women. We have assignments and projects and deadlines to meet. We have to handle our expenses all alone. We really are busy trying to make something of our lives. So, stop judging us Mallu girls in Bangalore with your stereotypical prejudices.

4. Another Ignorant Assumption

Excuse me? Yes! We have a lot of pubs and bars here in Bangalore. But that doesn’t mean every Mallu girl will drink once she moves to Bangalore. Sadly, a majority of Malayalees think this way. We can't blame them alone. Media also plays a massive role in portraying Bangalore in this manner. Grow up people, for heaven's sake.

PS. So what if she drinks ? Respect Choices. Period.

5. Stereotype Much?

No, all Mallu girls do not look in a particular manner and not all us have oily hair.  We're different and that makes us human. We maybe fair, dusky or black.  "No racist comments please!"
